Sioux Falls is located in the southeastern part of the state with over 130,000 people. Sioux Falls is comprised of various ethnic backgrounds: White Non-Hispanic 90%, American Indian 2.6%, Hispanic 2.5%, Black 1.8%, two or more races 1.7% and other race 1.2%.
The South Dakota School for the Deaf is fortunate to have numerous resources in our community. Communication Service for the Deaf headquarters is located adjacent to our campus. CSD provides a variety of community programs and services to meet the needs of our local community. SDSD partners with Augustana College to provide support to supervising teachers and practicum students.
Recreational opportunities are numerous in the Sioux Falls area. Sioux Falls has over ten golf courses in the area, several city parks and pools, several museums, a zoo, a variety of restaurants, and the largest shopping mall in the state.
Sioux Falls has 6 high schools, 7 middle schools and 30 elementary schools. We have 3 universities, a college, a technical institute and a community college.
